Transition brings many questions, and some of those revolve around the law. Questions like “How do I change my name?”, “How do I get my documents updated to reflect my identity?” and many more. These questions and answers are constantly evolving. This panel will help guide you through the challenges and opportunities of the legal questions for transgender individuals.
Shannon Fauver is the owner of Fauver Law Office. She mostly handles Social Security disability and bankruptcy cases, but her offices handle a wide range of matters from traffic court to Civil Rights. Shannon attended Morehead State University and received both her BA is Biology and her JD from the University of Louisville, Brandeis School of Law.
Between her two degrees, she served in Morocco with the Peace Corps.
Since opening her practice, she has represented people from every walk of life and it seemed only natural that when she saw a need for a case to be filed to allow her clients to be married and for those to be married to be treated equally once Windsor was ruled on, she and Dawn Elliott filed the first same-sex case in Kentucky marriage case in Kentucky, Bourke v. Beshear. This case was the precursor to the Love v. Beshear case.
Ms. Fauver is a member of the KBA, LBA and ABA. She is a former member of the Brandies Inns of Court.
